Federal investigators are looking into former Temple University men’s basketball player Hysier Miller for allegedly point-shaving and betting on games. Point shaving is when a player alters the final score of a game to hit a certain spread without changing the winner.

ESPN quoted sources close to the matter who explained how Virginia Tech released Miller last month after learning about the NCAA and federal investigations. He didn’t play a game for the Hokies after transferring following his top-scoring season for Temple in 2023/2024.

point spread moving from UAB -2 to -8 on game day

Suspicious betting activity on a game in March initially captured the attention of the authorities. Sportsbooks alerted US Integrity regarding the game between UAB and Temple, with the point spread moving from UAB -2 to -8 that day. Several operators stopped taking bet. Such a significant movement is rare in college sports.

UAB ultimately won the fixture 100-72, with Miller missing three shots and giving away three turnovers. While the FBI denied the existence of an investigation, an NCAA probe is ongoing.

Miller’s attorney responded to ESPN regarding the allegations, saying his client “will meet and overcome whatever obstacles lay ahead.”
