Despite going into the semi-finals as an outside shot, Ireland has now qualified for the Grand Final of Eurovision 2024. Not only that, the nation has become one of the favorites to take the trophy in Saturday’s live event in?Malm?, Sweden.

Ireland is tied with Sweden as the most successful country in Eurovision, both with seven victories each. However, the nation hasn’t qualified for the final since 2018. In stepped Bambie Thug to break that curse in Tuesday’s first semi-final.

Bambie Thug, a non-binary, self-described witch, performed their song Doomsday Blue in the semi-final. The satanic performance has predictably led to a mixed reaction on X, with one user claiming that in all of Eurovision history Bambie Thug had just given:

the most original performance we EVER had.”

Others questioned if the act was “family friendly,” given that the song is about practicing withcraft, casting spells, and satanic sacrifice. Bambie Thug has also caused controversy by making very public their stance on the Israel-Gaza conflict. In a press conference after the semi-final, they told reporters they were forced to remove pro-ceasefire messaging on their outfit.

Whatever the case, Bambie Thug has put Ireland right in the mix ahead of Saturday’s final. A bet on Ireland will secure +1100 odds. That puts the country fifth favorite, behind Croatia (+110), Switzerland (+350), Italy (+600), and Ukraine (+1000).
