Crown Resorts is satisfied that its CEO Ciarán Carruthers did not violate any laws when allowing a banned patron to enter its Melbourne property. Two separate law firms ran the internal review and the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) was also happy with the findings.

A complaint surfaced in December that Carruthers permitted entry to the Crown Melbourne casino resort to a patron who was banned for 12 months for accompanying a minor on the gaming floor. He overruled security personnel, making some of the employees feel “insignificant, snubbed, and scared” for their jobs.

the board is now reviewing security policies

Crown Resorts Chairman Bill McBeath said that the board is now reviewing security policies to make sure that there are “clearer lines of authority and accountability over operational decision-making” going forward.

Carruthers took over as CEO in September 2022 amid a raft of changes following extensive failings at the company. He previously worked for two decades in Macau, serving as the Wynn Macau’s Chief Operating Officer.

The Blackstone-owned company is still waiting to hear the results of the VGCCC’s review of Crown’s suitability to run a Melbourne casino. The hope is that the regulator will deliver its verdict in April.
