Starting with the 2023 NFL season, physical sportsbooks attached to the football league’s stadiums can operate on game days, multiple sources have revealed.

NFL owners approved the move Tuesday at vote in Scottsdale, Arizona, signaling the league’s ever-growing comfort with gambling. Sports betting writer Matt Rybaltowski shared the news via Twitter:

As Rybaltowski noted, the policy means the Fanatics sportsbook inside the Washington Commanders’ FedEx Field can now open for business on game days. The other three NFL franchises impacted – the Arizona Cardinals, the New York Giants, and the New York Jets – have sportsbooks outside their stadiums that will be allowed to stay open.

According to The Athletic, the four game-day-operating sportsbooks won’t need to share their revenue with the other 31 franchises in the NFL just yet. Once the four hit a revenue threshold “believed to be around $20 million” the money will be pooled with the rest of the teams.

The Fanatics sportsbook at FedEx Field made US history in January as the first retail sportsbook to open inside an NFL stadium.
