Making another change
Tottenham Hotspur and manager Antonio Conte have parted ways. For now, the Italian’s former assistant Cristian Stellini will take charge of the English Premier League (EPL) team as interim manager until the end of the season, but fans are already looking at what candidates could potentially take over.
Spurs currently lie in fourth place in the EPL
The departure of Conte “by mutual consent” means that it is the fourth time in the past four years that the club has changed manager. The writing has been on the wall the last few weeks regarding Conte’s position at the club. Spurs currently lie in fourth place in the EPL and will be hoping to stay there to cement UEFA Champions League qualification.
As yet another manager leaves the silverware-hungry club, many believe that 29-year-old star striker Harry Kane could also be eyeing up an exit. The three-time Golden Boot winner has never won a major trophy and may have to seek other avenues for success as he enters the twilight of his career.
So, what are the sportsbooks predicting?
Big names in contention
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is now on the search for a manager that could help drive his team to greater heights than ever before. The club has been without a major trophy since winning the League Cup (now Carabao Cup) in 2008. Many names are linked to the now-vacant managerial position at Spurs.
favorite with most sportsbooks is Julian Nagelsmann
The current favorite with most sportsbooks is Julian Nagelsmann, who was relieved of his duties as Bayern Munich manager last week. The 35-year-old had won more 70% of the games in which he was in charge of Bayern and his team knocked out Paris Saint-Germain from the Champions League just a few weeks ago. He is priced at evens.
Fan favorite Mauricio Pochettino is next in the betting at +500. The Argentinian was in charge of Spurs between May 2014 and November 2019. While he didn’t win any trophies during his first spell at the club, the 51-year-old led the London team to Champions League and League Cup finals, as well as a second-place finish in the Premier League.
Some of the other names that feature high in the betting include current Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner, former Spanish supremo Luis Enrique, and French legend Zinedine Zidane.
Harry Kane’s unclear future
As well as searching for a new manager, a lot of uncertainty remains regarding Harry Kane’s future at the club. The prolific striker, who became England’s all-time leading goal scorer last week, is said to be contemplating his future. He had pushed for a move to Manchester City a couple of years ago but was blocked by Daniel Levy.
His current deal expires next year and it is likely a decision about his future will be made this summer. If he doesn’t want to sign a contract extension, Spurs will likely want to cash in before Kane’s contract expires.
Of the teams that Kane has been linked to, Manchester United is the current favorite to sign the striker at odds of +200 with a number of sportsbooks. Bayern Munich are second in the list at odds of around +1200, while Newcastle and Chelsea follow both at odds of +1600.
