A US District Judge in Maryland has sentenced Darius Young, 30, to 13 years in federal prison for his role in a kidnapping and robbery at MGM National Harbor Resort & Casino in 2021.?

Darius Young, a/k/a “Mup”, of Washington, D.C., must also serve five years’ probation

In a news release Monday, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland said Darius Young, a/k/a “Mup”, of Washington, D.C., must also serve five years’ probation. FBI Baltimore took to Twitter to share news of Young’s sentence, which was handed down by Judge George J. Hazel:

In full, Judge Hazel convicted the D.C. man of “conspiracy to commit kidnapping, in connection with the kidnapping of a victim from a Maryland hotel and casino and for possession of firearms and ammunition by a felon.”

Young and another four co-defendants, Anthony Erik Hebron, Christopher Young, Lamar Perkins, and someone named only as Co-conspirator 1, were indicted in 2021. Darius Young’s 13-year prison stretch overtakes that of his cronies Perkins (ten years) and Christopher Young (126 months).

The DOJ, however, said it expects Hebron to be sentenced to 14 years when he goes before the judge in August.

Promises of a good time

According to the suspects’ pleas, Hebron and Co-conspirator 1 met the victim at the Maryland hotel and casino on February 3, 2021. The pair promised to take the man to a D.C. neighborhood, where they would get him women.

The victim fell for the ruse and accompanied the pair in their vehicle to southeast Washington, D.C., the scenario turning from woman procurement to kidnapping, as the other two suspects also entered the vehicle.

According to the DOJ, the four men took personal items from the victim, including his wallet, cell phone, $500 watch, and hotel room key. Hebron soon after hit the victim with his gun, forcing him to reveal the code to his hotel safe. The four drove back to the hotel and casino with the victim and proceeded to burglarize the man’s hotel room.

As stated in Darius Young’s plea, two of the suspects stole $1,500 in casino chips, around $6,000 in cash, and a gaming system.

Guns galore

A little over a month later in March 2021, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Darius Young’s residence and discovered two loaded 40-caliber pistols and one 9mm pistol.

They also found a privately made assault-rifle style pistol without a serial number or markings, known as a ghost gun.

Darius Young, whose previous felony convictions made it unlawful for him to possess firearms or ammunition, admitted to illegal possession.

Tuesday’s sentencing of Darius Young was a joint announcement by four representative authorities. These were US Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron, special agent in charge Wayne Jacobs of the FBI’s Washington field office criminal division, special agent in charge Thomas J. Sobocinski of the FBI’s Baltimore field office, and Chief Malik Aziz of the Prince George’s County PD.

In December 2019, MGM National Harbor Casino was the locus of another crime. A man was shot after suspects followed him home, before robbing him and another victim of their $42,000 casino winnings.
