Trying to smash his own record
American gambling romantic and collector Gregg Fisher will next week attempt to smash his own Guinness World Record for the largest collection of casino chips and tokens.

If successful, Fisher, who has topped the Guinness charts since October 2020 with 818 casino chips and tokens, will almost triple his previous record with a new total of 2,222 pieces. The Sin City native’s collection will be on public display for “review and challenge” at Spinettis Gaming Supplies in Las Vegas starting September 27 through September 29.
Spinettis in July shared an interview with Fisher on Twitter, in which the collector spoke about his 818 record, the Guinness World Record-breaking process, and his love affair with American gambling:
As with Fisher’s previous record, every single chip or token he will be displaying from next week comes from a different casino. The Vegas collector explained: “The number of items in this Guinness World Record [2,222] represents the same number of different casinos.”
A painstaking process
Two Guinness-appointed witnesses will tally, photograph, and authenticate each token over the three days that the collection is on display at Spinettis.
The painstaking process, which is also captured on video, requires Fisher to “deliver a concise, clear inventory spreadsheet, with each page signed by both expert witnesses”, according to the Casino Collectables Association (CCA).
Following the submission of evidence to the Guinness World Records, a 12-week review process starts. If approved, Fisher’s new world-record-breaking collection will be displayed at the CCA’s 29th annual show starting June 16, 2022, which will take place at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Passion for American gambling
While Guinness World Record breakers go into the history books, Fisher’s attempt is less about smashing records than showcasing a lifelong passion for American gambling.

A biography Fisher sent to Spinettis ahead of his 818-piece attempt in October 2020 encouraged “anyone and everyone to learn about the history of gaming in the United States.” Fisher added: “[Gambling] has been part of the fabric of our way of life since the old west. I hope my story will inspire someone to begin their journey, and, one day have their name in the Guinness Book of World Records.”
It all started in Vegas
In his recorded interview with Spinettis, Fisher said that for his 21st birthday in 1975, he went to Sin City for the first time. On visiting the Desert Inn Hotel and Casino and playing poker there, he said he “loved everything about it, the atmosphere, the action, the romance […] everything about casinos just resonated with me.”

From then on, Fisher took part in poker events across the US, cashing in “a variety of prominent poker tournaments from the WSOP and WPT circuit.” Fisher would, of course, also take a token or chip from every casino he visited.
