Strengthening fan connections

Esports online gambling operator Esports Entertainment Group (EEG) has added another sports team to its list of partners. The company has signed a new agreement making it the official esports tournament platform provider for the Los Angeles Chargers.

EEG took to Twitter on Friday to confirm the news with a video featuring a number of players from the NFL team:

According to the operator’s press release, Esports Entertainment will produce annual co-branded tournaments for the Chargers using its Esports Gaming League platform. The partners will work together to promote tournaments through digital marketing efforts on multiple channels, including social, email, mobile, and online.

Grant Johnson, CEO of EEG, commented on the new deal on Friday. He said: “We are delighted to expand our reach in the NFL through our partnership with the Chargers. Our robust tournament platform will help the Chargers strengthen connections with their fans while provisioning new avenues for engagement.”

One more sports agreement

Sports partnerships are not something new to Esports Entertainment. Over the past year, the company has signed multiple deals with NFL franchises, including the Baltimore Ravens and the Philadelphia Eagles. Both agreements mirror the terms of the LA Chargers deal, naming EEG as official esports tournament provider.

Esports Entertainment partnered the New York Rangers in June

Outside of American football, the operator also teamed up with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers in May. The company will benefit from LED court signage during the team’s 2021-2022 regular season home games, and will host an esports-themed night each year. More recently, Esports Entertainment partnered the New York Rangers in June, paving the way for NHL-themed sports tournaments.

Commenting this week, Esports Entertainment president of esports Magnus Lepp?niemi explained how these partnerships reflect the business’s quality. “Working with the Chargers and other top teams in the NFL, NHL, NBA, and more provide a strong validation of the quality of our robust platform and its ability to meet the demanding needs of large-scale, high-profile deployments,” he said.

Expansion across the globe

Malta-based Esports Entertainment has made significant progress in its mission to enter the US’s sports betting market. The company received its first US betting license earlier this year in New Jersey. This is the only state which currently permits wagering on esports tournaments.

In July, New Jersey lawmakers passed a bi-partisan bill which revises the state’s sports betting regulations to include esports wagering. This means operators can accept bets on esports, but only up to $100. That wager limit could increase however, if sanctioned by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

Outside of the US, EEG has access to European markets through its acquisition of online casino operator Bethard. The company paid €16m ($19.5m) in cash in the deal earlier this year. The transaction, which officially closed in July, gives Esports Entertainment access to the Spanish and Swedish gambling markets.
