Standalone offering

The FanDuel Group has launched a standalone app for its online casino which will be made available to customers in Pennsylvania.

The New York City-based sportsbook and daily fantasy sports provider was previously using its sports betting app to allow mobile players access to its casino site. Each product will now operate via a separate app, which marks a first for FanDuel’s online casino offering.

Users will still be able to access casino games through the FanDuel Sportsbook app for now. Existing customers can also keep their current account details to play on the new casino app on their iOS or Android devices.

Reason for new app

The FanDuel Group’s general manager and VP of casino, Jesse Chemtob, explained the reason behind the June 24 launch. He touched upon the importance of Pennsylvania for the company, being the first state where it launched both an online sportsbook and online casino offering.

Chemtob highlighted how there has been a lot of interest and engagement to date in the state with FanDuel’s online casino product, indicating a demand for a standalone app. He said: “We view this product evolution as a natural next step to provide a full-service gaming experience to our Pennsylvania customers.”

New deal with SportsGrid

In addition to the casino app launch, FanDuel recently announced its official partnership with the sports betting network SportsGrid.

SportsGrid launched its 24-hour television service in 2019, offering live programmes every day covering all of the major North American sports.

The multi-year deal gives FanDuel exclusive category access to broadcast, radio, syndication, and digital assets across SportsGrid’s network. FanDuel will be collaborating on more than 50 hours of original audio and video content every month. SportsGrid will be exclusively featuring and promoting the sportsbook company’s odds, promotions, and data across its shows.

Pennsylvania casinos reopening

Casinos in Pennsylvania are starting to welcome visitors once again in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, with Governor Tom Wolf leading the state’s phased reopening on a county-by-county basis. The first casinos to open for business on June 9 were the Meadows Racetrack and Casino and the Rivers Casino Pittsburgh.

Valley Forge Casino, FanDuel’s license partner in the state, also recently announced its plans to resume operations on June 26. The facility has been closed since March 17 following the statewide casino closure order.

Casinos have to follow strict health and safety protocols while operating at reduced capacity for the foreseeable future. Poker rooms remain shut due to the close-quarter nature of the game.
