A new service for sports bettors

William Hill US has teamed up with five casinos in Nevada to allow sports bettors to safely and easily sign up for a William Hill Mobile Sportsbook account and make deposits.

Drive-thru facilities will be open on May 8 and 9 in the parking lots of the Alamo Casino, Arizona Charlie’s Decatur, the Plaza Hotel and Casino, Sierra Sid’s Casino, and Arizona Charlie’s Boulder.

CEO Joe Asher explained the purpose of the new service in a press statement. He said: “Ahead of the largest sporting events of the month, we wanted a safe way to meet the current demand from our customers.” To encourage use of the drive-thru facility, the world-leading gaming and betting company is offering bonuses for new sign-ups as well as existing account holders.

Bettors can also download the mobile app, register for an account, and verify their identity in advance of going to one of the drive-thrus. The sign-up process is then completed at any of the facilities by taking a selfie with the app.

A growing trend in Nevada

William Hill is not the only sportsbook in Nevada to offer a drive-thru betting service. Circa Sports launched its drive-thru service on Thursday at the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. This came after the South Point Hotel and Casino started accepting deposits at a drive-thru on Wednesday.

Circa Sports is running its service every day between 10am and 6pm PT. It will accept cash deposits, but employees will not give out money for canceled or winning bets. Instead, the funds will be credited to the person’s mobile account. South Point is also operating its drive-thru daily from 11am until 6pm PT.

As per Nevada law, there has to be in-person registration to fully set up a mobile sports betting account. While casinos in Nevada have been closed since mid-March, mobile sportsbooks are still operating.

Sportsbooks trying to survive

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, sportsbooks have taken a big revenue hit as most sporting events around the world got canceled or postponed. Sports betting businesses have been looking at other ways to drive revenue, with Nevada taking in record bets for the recently held NFL Draft

This weekend will see the first major live sporting event to take place in a long while. The mixed martial arts competition UFC 249 will be held on May 9 at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. Sportsbooks are hopeful that this will prove to be a significant event for betting.

Other sporting organizations are also resuming activity, with Germany’s main soccer league Bundesliga set to kick off matches behind closed doors on May 16.
