This new and improved take on Amaya Gaming's original "Arthur's Quest" includes gloriously detailed graphics and new features to draw you ever deeper into the magic of Camelot. Time for Another Trip Back to Camelot
From the first trumpet that heralds your entrance into this game, it's clear that it's centered around the classic characters who make up the story of King Arthur, from Merlin the magician to the lovely Guinevere. The background sounds are quite basic, fitting the overall simplicity of the game's design. Winning lines are signaled with the brief strumming of a harpsichord. A full medieval tune plays whenever you're enjoying one of three bonus games described below.
The five lower-value symbols in Arthur's Quest II come from the top of the card deck, beginning with 10 and ending with the Ace. All five are beautifully rendered in brightly colored calligraphy-styled fonts. A Weapons Set featuring three metal weapons makes up the suit of higher-valued symbols. Lowest in value is a pair of crossed silver battle axes. Next up is a cluster of lances intertwined with flowing ribbons. Excalibur, the magical Sword in the Stone, serves as the both the highest-paying symbol and the game's Wild.
Features
The Excalibur Wild symbol only substitutes for the other weapon symbols: the lances and the battle axes. Like the original Arthur's Quest, this game doesn't include a Free Games or Free Spins feature and therefore has no Scatter symbol. But also like the original, you'll be happy to learn about three Bonus symbols, each of which unlocks a unique bonus game any time you're lucky enough to score three of one type at once.
The handsomely crowned King Arthur symbol unlocks the Sword in the Stone Bonus Feature, Merlin and his magic staff opens the Pick a Spell Bonus Feature, and the lovely Guinevere welcomes you into the Enchanted Dragonfly Bonus Feature.
No Free Spins but Plenty of Bonuses
Since Free Spins aren't on the menu, it's good that all three bonus games in Arthur's Quest II pop up frequently. In addition, the number of matching Bonus symbols you land on adjacent reels provides you with a multiplier. Matching 4 earns a 2X multiplier, and matching 5 multiplies your winnings 3X.
Three Arthur symbols open the Stone in the Sword Bonus Feature, where a giant stone appears, impaled with several swords. To play, just click on a sword and it will disappear, revealing a multiplier. Keep clicking until you see the word "Finish" instead of a multiplier beneath a sword. At that time, the bonus round ends and all the multipliers are added together and applied to your account. It's lucky to see "Finish" appear on your very first click, because it automatically wins you this mini-game's maximum prize.
Three fair Guinevere symbols unlock her Enchanted Dragonfly bonus feature. It takes you to a small pond where you watch a magic frog gobble up dragonflies. When he finally chooses the enchanted dragonfly, you'll see a figure reflecting the total credits won.
Finally, three or more Magic Merlins open up the Pick a Spell bonus game. An open book lies before you, printed with four spells. Click on one of them to reveal your prize beneath it.
Exact Same Limits as it's Predecessor
Fixed paylines mean you always bet on all nine lines with every spin. But you can choose a coin value from one of the following: 0.01, 0.05, 0.25, 1.00, 2.00 or 5.00. The minimum bet on any spin is 0.09 and the maximum you can wager at once is 45.00.
A Step in the Right Direction
Arthur's Quest II is a visually beautiful game, with a lush green background surrounding a gray castle with blue-topped spires. I never enjoyed the first game but I feel this one is a significant improvement, both visually and in terms of gameplay. While it won't be making my top 10 lists any time soon, it's a game that can be fun to play now and again.
